IT Audits

So why do you need and IT audit?

There are now more than 65,000 viruses, which have been identified and 400 new ones are created every month, according to the International Computer Security Association. Five years ago, the chance you would contract a virus in a year was about 1 in 1000. Today, you have a 1 in 10 chance of contracting a virus in any given year.

Over the past six months we have audited a variety of business computer networks ranging in size from a single user up to 20 users and our results have been shocking. All businesses but one had been hacked into in one way or another. These businesses included Accountants, Financial Advisers, Solicitors and Doctors.

Here are some of the results:

- 99% had either been hacked into or had a virus - unknown to the owners

- 83% had an IT person or company looking after their computers and network that they described as an "IT expert"

- 72% of their virus protection hardware or software was incorrectly configured or inadequate for the job

- 4% had time bombs - these are malicious programs that activate on a certain due date

The purpose of an IT audit is to examine the health and effectiveness of your current computer systems. We give you a full report on your current system state including recommendations to fix any problems and increase your security.

Whilst it is impossible to acheive a 10 out of 10 security rating you should aim to get 8 or 9 out of 10. Sadly, many of the companies we audit score about 2 or 3 out of 10 which is a very risky way to do business.

Most of our clients now have regular audits and system maintenance to avoid getting into a similar situation in future. We proactively apply software patches and service packs to reduce your risk of being caught by the latest virus threats as well as ensuring your system is correctly configured to ensure your virus software, firewalls etc are working to their best effect.

If you are concerned about the security of your systems please contact us and we can talk about arranging an IT audit.
